review 1: I read this collection of feminist essays in one sitting on my train ride from Denver to Chicago, so somewhere in the Midwest which seems fitting, especially since the man sitting across from me in the aisle saw the title and smirked. And then I kept catching him looking at me from time to time along the way, ugh. And then there was an upsetting incident at the train station I journalled about. Anyway, great stuff as usual, Solnit writes about our rape culture and violence against women with her usual candor and keen observation. A lot of grim statistics, and reasons we need to keep talking about these issues and doing what we can to eliminate them.
review 2: EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS. It's that powerful / relevant / well written. One could say it is written
... morefor specific audience, but the truth is it is written for all of us. It packs an emotional punch. Though it is a collection of essays, they all tie together -- except for the Virginia Woolf essay, which I wish had been left out -- and it's impossible to see things the same way after reading this as I saw them before. less

Lots of feminism in one place: good length, good for thinking and understanding
