review 1: MMm...good.Well that was surprising in the trajectory it took. Started off with me going, seriously? My friends like this? Wait, no...my friends liked this--keep reading. Then BAM! Sizzling. OMG it was pretty darn hot and Kiyoshi and David were wicked good. I'm all on board with the theme and then there's this scene which makes a point about pseudo-representations and the harm to group, but it was OTT and honestly, I think the story would have been a lot stronger if Master Shaun had just been dumped. Any way, a delicious exploration of menage turning to polyamory and cross-dressing and ASSUMPTIONS! Big on how that's a trap. In the end, my friends were right--shouldn't have doubted them. Sorry :)
review 2: I'm a huge fan of the m/m/m genre and mixed up with a
... moresugar coating of kink this story is exactly what I love. The freelance nature photographer and novelist Ethan Bouwer is hunting a topic for his new writing project: The world of BDSM. He trips over the Dom David Turner and his beautiful partner and cross dressing sub Kiyoshi, who are quite a famous couple in the BDSM circuit. Ethan is completely taken by them, and within a few hours he decides that he really wants to learn from them... Soft Focus delivers a well-written and beautiful story. It's written with a great deal of sensitivity. It makes clear that BDSM is based on loving trust and honesty, and lack of respect and brutality have no place in this lifestyle. Although this is a romance, the characters are intense. They are clearly defined and I could easily connect with each of them. I liked how the authors bring out the pros and cons of the BDSM lifestyle and how idiots like the one in the story can give a whole community a bad name. What I didn't like was the shortness of the story. There's definitely a lot more for Ethan to learn, and that could have been an interesting journey if there would be a sequel. It's too bad that the authors left us high and dry. :) less
