review 1: Fascinating and eye opening exploration of "who was Jesus," written from a historical perspective. Describes the context for how and why the gospels were written as they were. this includes pointing out some key bibical stories that simply do not make sense given the historical realities as well as addressing (mis)translations of key phrases. I finally understand why the Vatican is in Rome after reading this book.
review 2: Interesting perspective. It was fascinating to learn what was going on politically and historically during that time. I do think the author manipulated his "data" to serve his viewpoint though. When it worked to his advantage, ancient biblical texts were "historically accurate".
