review 1: This book was all right, but there wasn't anything special about it. Juliana's family was imprisoned by false charges against them. A mysterious benefactor helps her escape and points her on the path to finding evidence that will free her family. The benefactor also helps her reconnect with Ashe, someone she knew from when he visited her family.The story is all right, but there's nothing special about it that makes it pop. Instead of being engaged in the characters and action I was checking each scene off against a list of paranormal romance tropes. It doesn't help that while this book is listed as the first in a series, you can tell while reading it that there's a lot of back story that you're missing. It turns out this book is strongly connected to a different serie... mores by the author. There's enough there to follow the story and understand what's going on, but I wonder if the missing connection with the characters would have been there if I'd read the other series first. Overall, a bit dull and silly, but not bad either.
review 2: If you like Kresley Cole, I think you might like this one. There's the unique mythology, which is what I value most in paranormal romance. All the species and the differences; it's bewitching. The hero and heroine have love-hate relationship which doubles the tension. A lot of secrets and trust issues between the couple. You definetely won't miss action. It starts out good and has a very satisfying happy ending. It's worth giving a try (: less
