review 1: I’ve recently become very interested in the history of Africa and bought a few books on the continent. This is the first one I’ve read and it was great. It was an in depth firsthand look by the other himself about his time in many of the countries. He tells of the history of the different counties during and since colonization. A long read but a great one if you have any desire to learn more about Africa.
review 2: The author, a journalist, spent decades in Africa, first as a school teacher. He provides a truer picture of Africa than the "dark" side portrayed by the media and aid agencies of chaos, war and famine.
