review 1: Audiobook Review - 4 1/2 StarsNarrated by Doug ColemanAs my first R.J. Ellory novel, "Bad Signs" was a superb pick. Set in 1960's Americana, this novel chronicles the lives of two orphaned half-brothers who survive the horrors of an abusive childhood, abusive juvenile situations, only to be kidnapped by a killer named Earl. Swiftly they become nemeses, and the story of Cain and Abel unfolds. Bad signs takes you for a rough ride through the 1960s, instilling the reader with horror, terror, and a fervent hope that perhaps good may triumph over evil.Ellory does a masterful job of crafting the story in a subversive manner. At times, it is prosaic. At others, it is gruesome and not for the faint of heart.
review 2: I have not read any of this authors books before.
... moreBut I found this guy absolutely amazing. To write about the American Country and people in such detail is staggering con sidering his a Brit. The tale without giving away any of the plot is so well written you can actually believe you are there in the story. I am a Big fan of James Lee Burke, and i found this was akin to the same twist and turns of human nature, some good and some very bad. I am now looking for more of this writer. less
