review 1: I saw the movie several times and I decided to give the book a shot because I have been a huge fan of the movie since my childhood. Sometimes it was hard to follow the writer's thoughts and I had some issues accepting the decisions of the main character (SPOILER: etc.: the marriage proposal). Some things were not explained properly and other were over-explained. All in all it was an interesting book but with a lot of issues. For me this is a one-time entertainment.
review 2: I was entertained and really enjoyed the fact that it was written over half a century ago but set in today's future. The predictions of future society were interesting, sometimes cute, sometimes eerily true. It got slow in some parts but made up for it in the ending. What bothered me the mo... morest was the character of Mary and her submissiveness. The fact that the book was written during a time period that wasn't nearly as progressive as the one we live in today doesn't excuse it's sexism. However, I chose to look at it as a period piece and a study of the context around which the book was written, rather than get hung up on details that I may not necessarily agree with (which range from the sexism to the flying cars to the cracks about Russia). less
