review 1: This was really disappointing, and I ultimately felt compelled to abandon it about 800+ pages in. It had moments that were great, but it was so tangled and weird that I just lost interest, even with not many pages to go. I had been excited for it for over a year when I found out Coover had this, but there were some red flags that I should have paid attention to. For one, that someone as illustrious as Coover did not get a big press deal, and two, that there were blurbs for past work, not for this one. Coover was undoubtedly a master, but this one didn't come together for me.
review 2: Yes it's gargantuan but I also took way too long to read it. Whenver I was reading, I enjoyed it immensely, but whenever I had put it down I was never compelled to get back to it
... morelike I usually am with Coover (or the average enjoyable book). I definitely had trouble keeping track of all the characters, and the ending self-reflexivity aspects didn't sit very well with me, so I can't really see this is as on the same tier as Origin but it's great to have a big ambitious Coover work again and I hope to find more to it whenever I can re-read it in a few years, preferably in one go over a long weekend or vacation or something where continuity will lend itself to the details and nuances that I no doubt missed. less

I liked it better than his first Brunist novel, which I love.
