review 1: I think if Stone had stuck the meat-and-potatoes of this story and not filled my mind with ex-nun-turned-school-counselor nightmares and hullicinations about evil priests... It would have got 3.5. I just didn't enjoy the character development. At all. And I didn't really like anyone in the story, except maybe the roomate from the mountains. She seemed most interesting and was least delved into. h, well...
review 2: I thought this novel far superior to most novels I read, because it digs deeper into the human heart and soul. Perhaps atheists should be advised to pass it by, because it deals with issues that can't be measured with a ruler, poured into a test tube, or placed under a microscope. It operates in the fuzzy netherworld of the human spirit. Stone is
... moreinterested in good, evil, morality, redemption and sin. His world is not all sweet and light. Despite the title, it's not a whodunnit. It's about what and why. Stone has asked the big questions and seeks to answer some of them in this novel. I think he succeeds admirably. Why hasn't he been nominated for a Nobel? less

Convoluted mess of a plot. Thank goodness it's short cause it's not worth the time to read.
