review 1: A fairly decent love story between teens Grayson and Wren. Wren is quiet and shy and Grayson has a troubled past. It is disappointing that almost all of the book is spent with the characters trying to find their way to each other and almost none of the book is spent with them actually being happy together. Then in the second book in this series (which this reader read first) Wren and Grayson are described as having the love of soulmates. But the reader never gets to read about that romance. It really would have made for a more enjoyable book to actually get to read about that part of their journey in this book.
review 2: You’re lying to yourself if you can’t admit that YA contemporary romance has a status quo in terms of content. And it goes a little like t
... morehis:See, there’s this girl. There’s always this girl. And she’s reserved, or shy, or maybe even damaged, and it’s because of one of the following reasons, though it can often encompass more than one. Either it’s due to family drama, a lack of self confidence and self esteem, a previous relationship gone bad, a bully, or feelings of inadequacy due to overachieving best friends/siblings. And this girl, she desperately wants to break free from the monotony of her life. Therefore, cue the often badboy male love interest who shows her that only through his help, and not any sort of female agency, can she become less boring than she is. Unfortunately this is the kind of thing young girls want to read, so there’s an abundance of it.The Promise of Amazing is no different. Wren is the feeble female protagonist who’s lost in life and stereotyped as the “quiet” one. And of course you have the badboy Grayson who’s just waiting for the right lady to save him from being the womanizing manwhore he is, but it’s okay because he’s got a heart of gold underneath that all, even if it comes with some violent tendencies that women should not romanticize. Cut to instalove, resolution that happens through the “villain” or antagonist suddenly having a change of heart for no reason whatsoever, and family issues that seem to disappear like dust in the wind …The status quo. However, this certainly isn’t the worst YA contemporary book I’ve read, and aside from once or twice, I never really got bored. I finished the book. Parts of it were interesting, and it genuinely wasn’t a complete fail in terms of narrative structure or content. This is more like a 2.5 for me, but considering the recent books I’ve gone through, I’ll graciously bump it up to a three. less

It was ok, throughout the story it kept getting slower and slower. I was never really into the book.

3.5/5 stars. I liked both points of view and how the characters drew each other out.

Wren may have forgiven Grayson but I don't think I could've.
