review 1: This novel was more than just a fictional insight into the complicated romance/friendship between American artist Mary Cassatt & French artist Edgar Degas... It transported the reader into Belle Epoche Paris, brought the young impressionist movement - Manet, Morisot, Monet to like and explored the complexities of art and complicated love. So many times the novel threw me into its pages. I wanted to slap Degas but at other times make love to him. The pages turned like an epic period movie and while the great plot you normally see in a well written novel wasn't actually there, lovers of art, historical fiction and well written literature will find this fictional account of love in post civil war Paris hard to put down.
review 2: I liked My Name is Mary Sutter v
... moreery much, so I was looking forward to this 'faction' account of Mary Cassatt and Edgar Degas' relationship during the time the Impressionists were painting in Paris. It didn't disappoint and I wanted to keep walking the dog loner than necessary just to hear more of the audio book. Once again, a strong woman, Mary Cassatt, overcomes difficulties in establishing herself as a woman artist with opposition from her father and society. less
