Close your eyes and imagine your perfect getaway, as a parent, or maybe even as an individual who needs a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life – but only has one night or a weekend to do so. For some, it may be escaping to the seaside, or to a quiet little town, away from the city. I always thought that my ideal holiday would be just that, but when I escaped (literally down the road) with just hubby to The Last Word Hotel in Constantia, it sort of changed my perspective.
I arrived earlier in the day, as David was still at work. I kid you not, I spent most of the day just lazing in bed – something I never get to do as a mom. I didn’t even switch on the TV, I literally spent hours just enjoying uninterrupted thoughts, and watching the trees sway outside my sliding door, listening to the birds singing happily.
I then had a cup of coffee and slice of cake delivered to my suite, and then finally made my way downstairs to the beautiful, lush garden. I sat beside the pool for a bit, and then returned to my irresistible suite and finally David arrived. We had the freedom to do what we wanted for dinner. There was the option to order in from a nearby restaurant, go out or eat at the restaurant from their divine menu. However, we decided to just get some cold meats, cheese, and some crackers and enjoyed that for dinner.
I had a shower in the stunning mosaic shower, which is complete with natural body wash and shampoo and conditioner (I love it when hotels promote a more natural lifestyle). I was so happy to see their note explaining the water crisis to guests, and to see that they had removed the plug from the bath.
Being parents, we just took advantage of catching up on much needed sleep, and lazed in bed watching a movie until we both passed out. Even thinking about the comfort of the bed leaves me feeling sleepy all over again.
We woke up, feeling totally rebooted the next morning, and sadly we had to rush off to work, but first enjoyed a buffet breakfast, and hot meal before we left. Seasonal fruits, yoghurts, dried fruit and seeds, cheeses, cold meats, croissants, salmon – literally anything imaginable was awaiting us! I was in awe. I ate so much at the buffet, I was almost too full for my hot breakfast, but couldn’t resist ordering an Eggs Benedict. David had the French Toast, which looked like it had been whipped up on a professional TV show! We both left with incredibly content tummies, and were totally ready to face the day ahead of us.
The hotel is home to 9 boutique suites – which means you rarely bump into anybody else during your stay. It has been so well cared for, and every small detail has been placed where it is with so much thought.
We were so spoilt by being given the opportunity to stay in the Elegant Suite! But they also have the Family Suite which has two bedrooms, en suite bathrooms and even a Nintendo Wii. There is also the Superior Double Rooms which have their own private patio, and the Pool Suite which has their own small private garden.
The Last Word Intimate Hotels are a unique collection of luxury boutique five star hotels in Cape Town. Located in Constantia, Long Beach and Franschhoek. Being beach lovers like we are, and having grown up in the South Peninsula, I hope to stay at the Long Beach Hotel before too long for intimate, relaxing walks on the beach, and sunset watching.
I have to admit that I have never experienced such luxury before. From the moment we stepped out of the car, we were greeted by a smiling face, and shown around our suite. Having coffee and cake delivered to the Suite, and just the overall hospitality by all of the staff that we encountered during our stay was just a notch above anything we had ever experienced before.
It was a wonderful experience, one that I would happily return to in a heartbeat. I can highly, and confidently recommend ANY of The Last Word Hotels. And I can assure you that you will leave feeling totally relaxed. An incredible place to book for an anniversary, special birthday, some one on one time with your partner or even to family/friends visiting from afar. And, kids will have an absolute ball swimming, and playing in the huge, green, never ending gardens.
Their social media handles are gorgeous and updated frequently, so do head over to find out the finer details, and to watch their video tours on each of the Hotels:
