review 1: This book has a peculiar structure. It jumps around and I feel as though I am reading the author's journal. It is the type of book that needs to be digested in small bits. There are powerful nuggets but then I would read on and find myself questioning how some segments even made it into the final draft. Perhaps the reader is supposed to feel as if she is floating in a kayak and meandering through his thoughts.
review 2: pitch-perfect examination of grief. unless you have loved deeply and lost, you probably cannot follow what's being said here. what others commented on as rambling, i completely relate to, being one who is working through grief myself. i loved the last few sentences, which include the definition - grief - state of mind brought about when love, ha... moreving lost to death, learns to breathe beside it....this man has a keen eye for the essence of a thing. very poetic, as well. less
