review 1: When Roger's daughter, Amy collapses and dies from a heart condition at age thirty-eight, Roger and his wife, Ginny, leave their home on Long Island to move in with their son-in-law, Harris, and their three young grandchildren: six year old Jessica, four year old Sammy, and one year old James. Roger and Ginny quickly reaccustom themselves to the world of small children. Reeling from Amy's death, they carry on, reconstructing a family, sustaining one another, and guiding three lively children through the pains and confusions of grief. A grief ridden story that can be depressing.
review 2: I read this book in one afternoon. It made me sad, but I can't seem to stop reading books about death, especially those written by other parents who have lost a child. The Rose
... morenblatts seem to have done everything right before and after the death of their daughter, which makes me feel like I did everything wrong. So, part of me wanted to stop reading for that reason alone. I'm glad I read the whole book, though. It is an excellent example of how some families come together when tragedy strikes. And it left me feeling like the young children who lost their mother will be just fine because theirs is a family that knows the importance of making toast. less
