review 1: The author fictionalizes the love affair in 1916 between Helen Keller (age 37) and her male secretary (age 27) during a time when her companion, Anne Sullivan Macy was suffering from symptoms of tuberculosis. The narrative and drama were realistic but also heartbreaking. Helen's life was controlled by her family and the public's impressions and misconceptions of how she should live, feel, think and behave.Helen Keller never married for non-disclosed reasons. While this novel was very moving and personal, it was also very sad. I sincerely hope that Helen in real life did not feel as trapped as the Helen of this novel.
review 2: An awe inspiring novel, based on the love affair of one of the most famous idols in the world , the deaf and blind Helen Keller. I lik
... moreed it so much, and I liked the epistolary technique as well as the language. I liked Keller's strong will and her motives to be both a lover, wife and most importantly a mother. I liked her challenge. In a nutshell, the novel is very well written , it touches the emotions, especially the ending. less

Meh... Wanted to love the story but the story was poorly told. Didn't finish it. Too bad.
