review 1: The story of Connie a "foundling" adopted by an English family with one other daughter Jeannette . Connie never quite feels like she fits into the family and does not know that she is adopted until her adoptive father dies. I thought that the story would be about finding her parents. However the story is about death, resolution and dealing with death. Connie is in love with the forbidden man. Good story.
review 2: It's been a while since I read a novel by Rosie Thomas, I'm not sure why. This was a pleasure, a tale of becoming and living who you are, overcoming and coming to terms with the past and learning to make peace with oneself. Not as dramatically as in this excellently-told story, perhaps, but it is a journey we all have to make through our lives. T

Really enjoyed it, two stories going on at once but then come together, was good on audio.
