review 1: There were definitely essays that I enjoyed more than others, but overall I really liked reading about her perspective on various issues, great or seemingly small. I think, more than anything, Roxane Gay is very relatable and she addresses a fear many would-be feminists have: that they aren't "consistent" enough to truly be considered a feminist. It's an interesting question, and opinions will vary depending on one's definition of feminism.

She admits that she is not perfect, and she says feminism has gotten a bad wrap recently because people believe you have to be an angry woman with a chip on her shoulder in order to be truly feminist. Really all it takes is a belief that women should be treated in the same way as men. I loved her voice-- funny, smart, but with a certain humility and relatability that makes you think it's okay for you to be less than perfect too. less
