review 1: As is my habit, to read a book before going to sleep, I opened the book and started reading it. The plan was to read a few pages and then go to sleep. Half an hour and 25 pages later I was all smile and wide awake. It took me another half an hour and great effort to finally put down the book and go to sleep. It has been a long time since I read any of the Bond's book. With age the preference shifted towards more matured fiction (if there is anything like that). And when I opened the book last night it was as if a tide of memories stormed me. I laughed so hard, the introduction itself was so funny. His recounting of the incidence where he kissed Brigadier's wife mistaking her for someone else was hilarious. There were tears in my eyes from laughing. His books seem so timeless... more, with the purity of the soul of a children for whom most of his books are written. The language is so elegant, so fluent and still so easy to follow. It was like a beautiful trip to read the book! :)
review 2: I have to accept that I was drawn towards Ruskin Bond's work almost 12 years back during my college days. Only recently did I go and buy this book from Ruskin Bond with lots of enthusiasm and a hope that it will make me smile/laugh reading the same. Though the book is titled book of humour, according to me, it doesn't stand up to it. I wont say it is badly written, but the stories have some how lost their homour flavour compared to Ruskin's previous works. less

A light hearted book. A Great read when you want a break from serious novels!
