review 1: An American expatriot living in Mexico experiences a very strong emotional attachment (his first?) to a small black puppy he uncharacteristically adopts. Like any first time parent, he dotes on this little ball of fur and is devastated when the dog develops cancer. Ican understand the owner's decisions as the dog is his only responsibility but would never make those choices myself unless I were in the same position. Yep, another book where the dog dies at the end.
review 2: A purple prose account of a man raising his puppy and then taking it through extensive cancer treatment and a litany of other medically related problems. Ugh! Not what I expected when I picked this up to read to my daughter. The one enjoyable thing I took from this account was Lobo's persona
... morelity. He was sure a character - all the way to the end. Amazing how dogs are so personable and able to communicate their wishes and sentiments. less
