review 1: This was an OK historical romance, but it could have been so much better with some better writing and better plotting... First of all - the misunderstanding between the couple lasted for too long, even though it was very obvious that it was silly... Then all of a sudden, this misunderstanding was resolved out of nowhere! All of a sudden he just believes her?! Ok...I hated Claire's sister's character... Hated how her sister was money hungry to the extent that she made Claire buy her things from her husband's money... not caring that Claire said "no" so many times... And Claire seemed to be a spineless pushover when it came to her sister, but was always sooo harsh with her husband!! There was quite a bit of repetition in the novel - starting with the constant rehashing of t... morehe misunderstanding, to the constant mention of Perry's handicap and FOUR mentions of how Perry wants a wife but can't get one, and Nate didn't want one but had to get one! It all seemed pretty redundant...Finally, the ending with the dress-up and the spying on that Lord What's-His-Name > just plain silly...
review 2: I don't usually read just plain romance novels. There's a reason for that. I dislike the sexual descriptions that I find unnecessary for real romance. What I did like about this is nate's finally wooing his wife after 2months of marriage. It's never too late to change. I liked the communication and pleasure in little things like drawing toward the end. I liked the premise that Claire didn't mean to trap Nate. I could honestly fall off a veranda myself. Anybody clumsy out there or feel the walls closing in in large gatherings? I had some of the same feelings and concerns as a young person getting married (this of course was almost 40 years ago). I liked the establishment of friends characters but I needed more description of places, things, events, scenery. I enjoyed the relationship between Claire and her family. Some things were totally far fetched but oh well. I enjoyed that Nate was a typical nerd type guy for back then. He reads boring books. Nate is also a virgin and so reads a book about sexual encounters to assist him with his wife. What can I say? Even self help books back then. Lol like I said I really don't need the finger, licking, good theory for lack of a better way to phrase this. I was just glad they came to a reconciliation. The first 78% of the book is not problematic I think but it's that last 25%. For those that don't mind this it's a quick read, there's no mystery involved. less
