review 1: Now usually when I say that the best part of a book is the ending, i mean it in a really really negative way. As in,"Thank God this book is nearly over, I can get on to something better!"However, in the case of this book, the best chapters genuinely were right at the end.A vast majority of this book was quite slow I felt and it contained one of my pet bug bares….Flashbacks!!! I hate them!! A lot. I like for a book to take place all in one time frame and preferably from one POV (Though depending on the book this second one is negotiable.) I just feel that flashbacks aren't all that necessary. In many many MANY cases, a character to easily explain past events as a means of informing the reader. So flashbacks…unnecessary. But the real nail biting, teeth grinding, susp... moreenseful stuff doesn't happen in this book until the last maybe 100 pages. By the time the trial rolls around at the end, you are so confused from hoping from one suspect to another, that you really don't know who is guilty and who isn't. Don't get me wrong! This is a good thing. What is the point of a thriller, if you figure out the ending half way through….it takes the THRILL out of the THRILLer. Then the last to or three chapters are really the most impressive ending to a book I have read in loooooong time. I think this is kind of the effect 'Gone Girl' was aiming for, but it missed the post by mile, whereas this book, had it down to a tea. Massive positive points for a kick ass ending. Well worth persevering with the first three quarters of the book for the rewards at the end.
review 2: Rating: 3½Ruth Newman must be a fan of "Primal Fear", definitely. Well, I can understand her (it's one of my favourite movies and I love Edward Norton *-*), but it doesn't justify her for using the same ending. Despite of that, I can't give this book less than 3½ stars.
