review 1: One girl's journey from city girl where material things matter to farm girl and putting others first. Roxie is shipped off to her Granny's farm when her parents' marriage breaks down. Resentful of being there, she takes out her frustrations out on anyone and everyone. Her city life shows her up as selfish, judgemental and materialistic. But Chase attracts her attention and she starts to see how life should be and that people matter and to open her heart to those around her. This is a story of coming of age, of growing up, of understanding what really matters, of doing something meaningful.

... more this book before I read it. Here's my honest bias I like Ruthi, Love my home state of SC, I'm a sucker for down home love stories. So read this review with that knowledge. The story is about love. However it's not the Cliche love story you are thinking of though there is one in this book. It's about family and love that is suppose to be included with that word. It's about the love of having real friends. So let's get on with the characters.... Roxanne (ROXIE)- Yes that song pops in my head everytime I read or write that name you know the one by The Police? I'm actually listening to it now. Anyway... She's our spoiled northern girl who is sent to live with her Grandma Betty down in “podunk” South Carolina. She doesn't want to be there and acts like a %$#^& about everything at first. Then slowly before she even understands it she's falling in love. She's falling for Chase quick so quick it scares her. She's falling for his brother Brian and Neighbor Katy as real friends that she's never had before. She's falling for her Grandma Betty and her hard as nails, soft as butter ways. She's falling for a small town in SC. She doesn't know how to handle emotion at all. She's terrified of own thoughts and feelings and runs away from anything that remotely is good and happy. However slowly she's not running as far as fast. She's trying to stand still. Her journey is inspiring. When she finds out about the secert Grandma Betty is keeping it almost undoes all the good. That is until a family member stops by to be honest with Roxie. She's inspired to make some big changes.... You want to know more about ROXIE trust me.Chase is our charming, strong and full of guilt southern farm boy. I imagine any girl would want a chase in her life. Chase is ridden with guilt over an accident last year. The accident has changed his family and not for the good. When he meets Roxie he likes her right away. He's struggleing with himself and her to get anywhere close to a relationship. Oh man the stuff he had to put up with. When the secerts out it changes his life too this time Love will be the winner.... Grandma Betty I love Love LOVE her character. She reminds me of my grandmother in small ways. She's tough inside and out. She loves whole heartedly she doesn't put up with much from Roxie or her “family” memembers. She's the first to show Roxie that parents/grandparents are capable of loving in a real way. I love the like where she tell Roxie's parents to pull the corn cob out and the ones with Roxie speaking thick southern to annoy her daughter Roxies' mom. I laughed out loud reading that because I do that when people act shocked that I'm from SC. Katy & Brian- They aren't a couple they are a couple of good friends for Roxie though. Katy puts up with a lot of crap from Roxie and by the end finally calls her out on being so stupid. Katy and Brian teach Roxie what real friends are. The ones that stick out the hard times with her and love her despite herself.I think I typed the word LOVE way to much just now. This book is off the charts a good story. FIVE STARS....I loved how everything about this book was true to SC except the lack of a church being mentioned. You can't throw a rock and not hit one in this state. READ THIS BOOK!!! less
