review 1: Not a bad book at all and a good page-turner for a rainy night of relaxing reading. For a debut/initial offering for a new author, the book is very good. Additional character development is an opportunity and some of protagonists are solid enough that they could concieveably make it into a series of follow-on novels which I wouldn't mind reading. I bought this for $3 on the nook ebookstore; I have paid more for a book and liked it less in the past, so this was definitely with my money. Overall some good research and loving care went into the book and the author's desire to write well shows in that there are really very few inconsistencies. There are things that don't quite sit well, but they're really only of importance to those with a pedantic tendancy or those who h... moreave difficulty suspending a bit of disbelief for the sake of simply enjoying a good book by a passionate author. He's not Benchley, but I'd like to think that the old master would give this newcomer a sincere nod of approval. I'm eager to see what this author brings us next and will happily plunk down my money for another good sea tale from this fellow.
review 2: I’m usually a reader of nonfiction, who has a great deal of life experience ranging from being a military veteran to working extensively with law enforcement and search and rescue. A friend suggested the storyline of this fiction book. I was quickly engaged in a scientifically fascinating tale that smoothly integrates science, psychology, environmentalism, humor… it was a thrilling ocean and beach set "Jurassic Park" with characters similar to Hayduke and Bonnie from "The Monkey Wrench Gang". If you’re up to an experience with the love-child of an Edward Abbey - Michael Crichton story, I highly recommend this novel. If you’re afraid of the deep, dark, cold, open ocean with deadly monsters lurking beneath, or you get easily anxious from an intense page turning narrative, this may not be your first choice. ;) Excellent “edutainment”! Highly recommended! less

Jaws comparisons are a little generous... West coast Beast might be closer to the mark.

I enjoyed this book. A great thriller that ranks up there with Jaws.
