review 1: Rating: 4.5 starsA direct continuation of One Breath One Bullet, the Dominant Predator expands the cast of characters. While the story focused mainly on Merq and Armise (and it still does), we are introduced to several more characters. We know the “good” guys and the “bad” guys. The world of this story, at this point, becomes a playing field I relished in experiencing. But most of all, we see the relationship between our two soldiers ignite. And like dynamite set ablaze, the end result is an explosion of epic proportions. In this case, the Dominant Predator has more action, more romance, and more self-realizations. It’s still told form Merq’s first person POV, which was fine by me. He makes for an interesting narrator and I can’t help but root for him as he co... morentinues to grow into this new person with Armise’s help.I don’t know what else to really say about this sequel. I just really liked – moreso than its predecessor. It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger (thank goodness! At the time of this review, the third book has not been released yet). But things are far from settled, and I can’t wait to see how things will unfold.
review 2: I waited until Powerless (book 3) was out (if you pre-order, you can get the copy one month in advance with Totally Bound) to do a reread of One breath one bullet and read this one and woow the first Borders War was good but this one is fantastic. I have a better understanding of Merq and Armise's emotional state now(both have been "created" to be the super soldier of their countries but the way they react to this is so different.)Merq is slowly realizing that his goal in life, what defines him, changed. He can't just be a soldier anymore. And there is only a person he can trust (because he never really gave trust or love to anyone so his emotional growth is painful to read but so beautiful)I'm also more and more curious about Armise, he is so complex and intriguing. This story doesn't rely only upon his great characters, the plot is a great scifi one and, like all good dytopian stories, leads to troubling parallels to what our history could become in a not so far future. This story makes you think, has action and competent characters wrapped in a scifi background where different factions are fighting for their ideals and power, even if in the end, it's all great utopia, the power is always in the end of a few men. But sometimes other men try to change this balance, even if they didn't consciously decide it, even hating to have to do this, because someone has to do it and maybe, just maybe, values like honor and trust are not totally lost for humanity. And I think here, these men are Merq and Armise (and not just because they are the main characters. Great characters development guys!!)I have some great quotes showing this way better than my attempt at writing a (not really clear) review but I'm off to read Powerless now :) less
