review 1: A timeless book that makes hours seem like seconds, A book so moving the characters seem alive. You can feel their emotions, actions, and fears. Each are a symbol of the type of people in this world. Laia is forced to face her biggest fear, the ability to find courage and find out who she should trust. She is a symbol of hope and courage. Elias, just wants to be free of killing, and watching people suffer. Can he and Laia survive? Or will they burn like an ember in the ashes? If you love this book as much as I do you will stay up late every night until 2am on the edge of your seat devouring this book. Every page is a new suprise, laughter, or cry. This book moves you to feel the emotions of the characters. You'll laugh, cry, hate, and love with them. Sabaa Tahi... morer is a true artist to turn emotions to words in just a short 464 pages and over 6 years of writing.
review 2: 4.5/5 Such an amazing book! The dark gritty world is reminiscent of the Roman Empire but with prophecy, fate, ageless demons, epic battles and the endless struggle for power. This book sucked me in and I got really invested in all of the characters. Helene is my favourite because she is so strong, fearless and her love and loyalty was so inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time. I purposely slowed down when I was nearing the end of this book because I didn't want it to end. I absolutely can't wait for its sequel! Sara Raasch was right when she said: "this book will destroy you". less
