review 1: "The Fun Parts" is one of the funniest collections I've read. "The Climber Room", which first appeared in The New Yorker, literally had me laughing out loud. Some of the more sinister, disturbing pieces, while extremely funny, were difficult reads, but it truly was "fun" to get into the minds of those parts of society that normally we might run from. This was my first Lipsyte book, and I'm definitely intrigued and anxious to read the rest of his work.
review 2: Very meh. I came across this title as I was putting together a library display for "must" summer reads as it was mentioned in a couple blogs and publications for being hysterical. A couple of the stories maybe, but the rest of the book not so much. "The Wisdom of the Doulas" was the best offering of t... morehis collection and I did actually laugh out loud, I enjoyed "The Dungeon Master" too but had to skip over a couple other ones, especially as I read further on it became less of a "must" read and more of "do I have to?" less
