review 1: Like other reviewers have said, this book really comprises of two stories. The first is good; a 3d, snarky character with potential, talking about just another of her kills. The second half is pure back story. This slowed the pacing dramatically and I felt could have been 'sprinkled' throughout a little better.I found the serial idea very interesting as I personally do like short reads, but unfortunately this book wasn't as strong as it could have been.
review 2: "Vampire Assassin" is written as if two different authors wrote this novella. What do I mean? Well, the writing style is completely different from the first half of the book to the second. The first half of the book tells the story of Jane, vampire who assassinates other vampires. This is where I had ... moremy first problem with this story. First, Samantha Warren has Jane's character have a dialogue with 'us' the reader. She write...."If you are reading this, then, you must be human......" Quite honestly, it was obnoxious and cheesy. Next, Jane does not care whether or not her victim is good or bad she seems to assassinate for monetary gain alone. In this case, she kills a cheating vampire husband. Wow! if she kills everyone who cheats there will not be too many people left in the world. Yes, he was a scumbag but he did not deserve death.The second half of the book relays the story of how Jane meets her vampire husband and then is changed into a vampire. This portion of the book read like 'listerine' very antiseptic. There was not action, very little dialogue and just plain boring. I've already purchased books 2-4 in a compilation; so, I will continue to read the series. However, if it does not get better, I will not read any more of this dribble. less
