review 1: This book was better than any book I've read in a while; probably because it's a modern retelling of The Great Gatsby. The writing was more modern and nothing like Fitzgerald's, his was an art of description, while this is more like any other teen book you would pick up. The plot made up for the generic writing style. I loved how her mother, the typical social climber, was woven into the story. The other character that wasn't an original, Skags, felt slightly unnecessary to me; but I liked how Naomi was able to call her and feel more grounded about her life. The only part that I didn't like was how Jacinta's connection to Delilah started out as being childhood friends. It's just not believable that she would think of Delilah as being so wondrous at that young of an age. Ja... morey and Daisy's romance was much more believable. I also loved how the author used the first letter of all of the original characters names for the modern version; the gender swapping also made it more interesting.
review 2: I'm sorry but this was truly terrible. Sara is not a good writer. I know that is a terrible thing to say, but this book isn't good. The writing is clumpy and just simple things like paragraphs aren't formatted out well. The story is a take on The Great Gatsby which could be cool but isn't at all here. The author wrote about Hampton's elite and it's obvious she has barely even been to the Hamptons. She name drops clothes designers for some reason when it doesn't make sense. Ugh just don't read it. less
