review 1: True fangasm ensured for Regency gay novelas lovers. It was easy pick. The two main characters made very lovely and well balanced pair fitting in the period and to their roles in society. Captain Hugh Fanshawe was slowly discovering that work behind the desk could be as dangerous as on the front. Things started to be quite complicated when Colonel Theo Lindsay appeared in his life. At the beginning you have strange feeling that it would be about third son, who got injured during Peninsula campaign and became paper pusher with family duties like escorting mother and sister during various social event. Then bomb dropped and it changed in to the espionage novel. The French spy had only one epic moment of utter stupidness, but plot did not suffer by that. It was very enjoyable... more novel and well spent money.
review 2: Nearly, but not, 4*. I liked this a lot, it had a nice Georgette Heyer flavour, but I just felt it needed more passion and I found myself a bit exasperated by the coyly written sex. I'm fine with fade to black, or indeed with on page porn, as per requirements, but euphemisms don't ring my bell. I like this author, I want more full on gay Regency. It was, if not pitch perfect, a well written and convincing historical, and I will definitely read more from her. less

Four stars. Pleasant and rereadable, but ultimately slight.
