My Review: So last week I went to ThrillerFest Teen Panel. I was so excited because it had two authors whose books I’ve read and two authors I didn’t know much about. I was happy to see that Ashley’s book was on my TBR list so I knew right away I was going to end up buying that one. As I was at the panel the more I heard Ashley talk about her book the more excited I got to read it. I decided I needed to read it right away and honestly was so glad I did.
I have to say right away I loved the different perspectives. If you’ve read my reviews on books with multiple perspectives you know this is something I really enjoy. I like getting inside everyone’s mind. It allows me to see where everyone’s head is out. It would start off with Kate and then you would get a little from the point of view of the killer. I enjoyed that the killer’s chapters weren’t too long. It kept me wanting more. The two perspectives ended up working really well together.
Another thing I really enjoyed was the mixed media. All of Kate’s chapters would start off with text messages. I’m not going to say too much about them. I enjoyed cause they were really cute. I also ended up enjoying the twist with them. I did not see that coming so that was a cool surprise. I also enjoyed the transcript that were included. Since Kate is interning at the district attorney’s office and her boss is working on The River Point Boys case. He gets to see the interview’s that the boys had with the cops plus other people who were at this party they threw the night before. Sadly he has problems with his vision so he can’t see well. So Kate has to tell him how the people are reacting during the questioning. I really liked how close attention she had to pay to everyone. The way people act can really useful. It makes me want to go back and read the transcript with the killer and see how they acted during their interrogation. I wonder if they gave off any obvious hints.
When it comes to main characters I do have to say I liked Kate but I didn’t love her. I feel she was a bit careless at times. There were points in the story where she got caught doing the same thing multiple times. I really wanted to just go up to her and be like you’re doing this again after what happened the last two times. She never learned. She also ended up giving away important information. I understand you’re trying to help but come on Kate. That could end up hurting the case. I did enjoy her internship it did sound really interesting. I mean she even got to see photos of the body and visit the crime scene. That is really cool but also really creepy.
Another thing I really enjoyed is that Ashley is the daughter of an attorney so in her author bio it said that triggered the ideas in her legal thrillers. She also has experience being a photographer. These are two life experiences she added into the book. I really enjoyed that. I liked that she was able to take from her own experiences and add it into the book. I am super curious what kind of things she saw from having an attorney as a parent. I wonder if she ever saw a case that was like the one the book was written about. I really wish I read this book before I met her because I have a ton of questions. I feel like knowing these two things about her made the story a lot more enjoyable.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. I’m so glad I decided to start it not to long after I bought it. It was worth the buy and I’m so happy that it is signed. It was such a good mystery. I had no idea who the shooter was which made it a very enjoyable experience. I didn’t want to stop until I found out who the shooter was. The book went out with quite a bang which I ended up really enjoying. I will be checking out Ashley’s other books. I can’t wait to get my hands on them.
