review 1: Weird. A genre with which I am well familiar. I'm struggling for a solid description of this book but maybe that was the author's intention? I liked the interview style of storytelling. I was hooked enough to power through it in a day or so. Still, it was odd. Very cultish (not occult-ish) but "pulp fiction" cultish. I'm sure Lotz will grow a fine niche following. She's a solid writer. The book...I'm just not quite sure how to review this one. It was weird but not in a negative way. Just, odd and oddly interesting. Puzzling. Hmmm...
review 2: For me this novel started out as something picked up at my local library based on the description inside of the jacket. When I began reading I wasn't so sure that I would like the thing after all because of th
... moree many different characters providing narration and the presentation of the story in small snippets. However, the style the author used grew on me and the more I read the more I wanted to know. I didn't have much of a chance to read this week but the story was constantly in the back of my mind and eventually I got enough snatches of spare time to finish it. I was highly disappointed at first because everything was not tied up in a neat little package complete with a bow on top. Having taken the time and thought more about the ending I realize that it was what made the book a five star read for me. By telling the story in snippets and never revealing everything while also leaving the ending open to interpretation the author gave me something to think about long after I finished reading. It is my belief that this book will stay with me more so than others which end neatly because I will always be wondering what the exact solution to the story really is. less
