review 1: Rachel and her sisiter, Miri, are taking a class to prepeare for a Samsorta, a celbration ball for wiches. While Rachel is there, she meets a cute boy named Adam who seems to have a giant crush on Rachel. The only problem is that Adam doesn't know Rachel already has a boyfriend, Raf, who doesn't know she is a wich. At JFK highschool, a new girl Rachel knows, Wendiline, gets picked on beacause she keeps saying she is a wich. And at home, Rachel and Miri tell their dad they're wiches, he freaks out. Right before Rachel has her Samsorta, she finds out that it is on the same day as the dance. Since she can't think of anything better to do, she breaks up with Raf and starts going out with Adam!Soon she realizes she still badly wants Raf. Will she get back together with Raf and w... moreill Wendiline stop getting picked on or will both of them have to get used to the terrible way things are? My favorite character in Parties and Potions is Wendiline. First of all, Wendiline is my favorite character because she doesn't keep who she really is a secret from everyone. She goes out and shows everyone the type of person she is even if she just met them. Another thing is, Wendiline also wears clothes that she likes even if it is not the fashion. She dresses the way she does to show the real Wendiline and not a fake Wendiline. Furthermore, I connect with Wendiline in this way because I also don't keep my identity to myself and family. Neither of us tells lies about ourselves to fit in. We both also wear what we want to wear and don't care what others think. Wendiline is standing out in the crowd clothes wise and isn't bothered by it at all. I am trying to stick out like a sore thumb in a crowd and not conform to the pattern of the world like Wendiline. In conclution, and by a long shot, my favorite character is Wendiline. An audiace that I would probably recomend this book to is an audiance that enjoys books that have series and tell about characters at the teen age that face the same problems in life as we do through a fantasy. Parties and Potions has many characters that are in high school and face problems about fitting in and boyfriends. The story also is told with much fantasy and fiction about wiches. The audiance I would reccomend this book to would love to read this book because of all the crazy things that go on in the life of a teenager from helping a friend fit in in both the real world and the wich world to choosing a boyfriend from two amazing boys. This audiance would read the book over and over because of all the teenage drama it contains. I would recomend this book to an audiance that like teenage drama and fantasy.
review 2: Okay, I can't deny that I'm cheating a little and cutting this review short. I mean -- RENT is playing on Starz right now! I'm an excellent multitasker and all -- but this is RENT we're talking about! I'm having a hard time prying my eyes from the screen. But, I did just finish PARTIES AND POTIONS and I still think this little series of four was charming, cute, adorable and loads of fun. Yes, it feels very young -- as it's intended to be -- and it's definitely what I'd call fluffy young-adult chick lit. I did deduct a star because the whole "be yourself! love yourself!" message felt like it was being pounded over my head with a chalkboard or two-- but besides that, I'd definitely recommend this series. I already knew I loved Mlynowski's writing style and I already have another title or two of hers geared up on my to-be-read list. So, on that note -- Maureen is giving her MOO speech -- so for the review? The end! less

Sure, this book may not be the most brain stimulating, but it is definitely a fun, light read.
