review 1: A beautiful, magical, hopeful book that had me running a gauntlet of emotions during the time I read it(ate it up).Oscar is magic; or at least his best friend Meg thinks so. She's thought he was magic ever since the very first day he moved in to the house next to hers and became her best friend. And then maybe more than that, but a move to New Zealand scuppers any thoughts she has of seeing where that might go. Then Paloma Killealy moves into Meg's old house and becomes Oscar's best friend and suddenly Meg is happy she's on the other side of the world, away from the heartache in Ireland. Until Oscar disappears, killed himself, they say. Everyone is bereft without him; funny, bright, clever Oscar. But his little brother Stevie doesn't believe he's dead and Meg, returned fro... morem New Zealand to mourn her best friend, is beginning to think he's right. But how long can you live on hope? The Apple Tart of Hope is simple, elegant and beautiful and so very heartfelt. I wept and raged and gasped, putting it down was impossible. The language is gorgeous and gentle, with the dual narrative deftly revealing a story that's full of hope and beauty. It's so hard when you find a book you loved this much to not just scream I LOVED IT as your review, but it's true, I did.
review 2: Páni, tohle byl příběh… 1)Obálka hrozně mate, vypadá dětsky, spíš jako middle grade, ale tahle knížka míří i mnohem výš.2)Anotace je formulovaná tak chytře, že neprozradí skoro nic, proto je fakt těžký cokoli napsat, abych vám to nepokazila, kdybyste se na tuhle knížku chystali vrhnout.3)Čte se jedním dechem, zatajeným, přitom to není žádné strhující dobrodružství, spíš naopak, donutí vás přemýšlet o tom, čeho jsou lidi a děti a dospívající schopni. Budete dumat o věcech, které by vás ani nenapadly, bude vás z nich mrazit a budete se bát, jak to dopadne.4)Ten název je naprosto dokonalý! :) less
