review 1: This is the third and final book in the Small Blue Thing series and it didn't disappoint. The book starts right after where the second book finished which is great as the reader will know everything that has just happened and will be able to follow along with the story straight away. I liked the introduction of the new character (Max) as it added another possibility for the plot and one of my favourite parts of S.C. Ransom's writing is her characters. It easy to tell that she puts a greta deal of effort into planning what the characters will be like and how they are important to the story. One thing i didn't like about the book was that all the way through the story it kept mentioning things that had happened in the last two books. If that had only happened in the first hal... moref of the story (just to recap what had happened and refresh the readers memory) it wouldn't have been so bad, but to keep being told things you already know throughout the WHOLE BOOK is a bit annoying. This is a great story with memorable characters and a million plot twists that make the book what it is.
review 2: A stroke of brilliance with the endingPlease bear in mind that this is the third and final book in the trilogy and therefore the review may contain spoilers for the previous books.Scattering Like Light picks straight up where Perfectly Reflected leaves the story. The main focus being the power the amulet wields and how Alex is able to use it. Nice recaps are placed throughout the narrative to reinforce key elements of the plot. Although I would recommend that you read the entire series it isn't absolutely necessary in order to be able to follow the story-lineThe change of location rejuvenated the imagery, providing a pleasant interlude for both reader and Alex. The introduction of an alternative love interest for Alex in the form of Max gave the story an added realistic element. Alex's best friend, Grace, embodies the voice of reason and logic, stating precisely the benefits of a 'real' relationship, 'healthier' in many respects. Re-enforced later in the plot by Catherine's twisted argument.I actually really adored Max, fully empathizing with Alex's guilt at being drawn to him. Not only hot but deep down a total geek *swoon* plus he was so nice.I really could see Max and Alex together. Poor Callum. The plight of the dirges is poignantly portrayed. The full extent of their misery revealed causing conflicting emotions as to whether people should live in suffering or helped to attain peace. A powerful concept compassionately explored within the plot. There are a number of unexpected twists to the action that took the story to a completely unexpected direction, the threads of the plot coming together beautifully. The ending was simply that beautiful. The additional information regarding the history of the amulet in the prologue provided great insight and rounded of the end of the trilogy perfectly. less
