review 1: I found some of the writing very cheesy, but then after getting to know the main character I realized she is a bit sheltered/naive/inexperienced, so the corny lines really are how she is thinking. However, Laney does grow up and the book gets better and better. The ending was shocking and made me buy the 2nd book in the series right away! Can't wait to get through this whole series, it is a lot like 50 shades of gray, but with less S&M and more love triangles.

She is at college, away from the safety of her home and best friend, Evan for the first time. Her character is what makes this book. She is sassy, bold, giving, funny and shy all at the same time. She reminds me a lot of myself at that age, minus the love triangle. She is torn between two equally captivating men; Evan and Dane.Her struggle is about more than choosing the guy; it is about realizing who she is and who she wants to be. It wasn't an easy road it was full of unexpected revelations, twists and turns and heartache. The secondary characters in this book, the crew, give the book the lightness it needs. The crew is hilarious and everything you want in a group of friends; they're supportive and honest but have your back no matter what.Gah! There are so many things I could say about this book- you just have to read it. I promise it will take you back to that time in your life. Emerge is truly heartwarming. It is absolutely charming and beautifully written. less
