review 1: Selena Laurence has done it again with another awesome book! I am typically not a huge fan of spin-off stories; I like sequels to follow the story of the core couple from the previous book. That being said, I think that SL did an amazing job keeping Tammy and Walsh’s relationship relevant enough in book one to make me NEED to read book two. In fact when MO finished book one, her text to me read, “Please tell me book two is all about Tammy and Walsh!” The Love of a Lush picks up a few months before the end of Lush Betrayal (basically right after Lush breaks up) and tells the story of Walsh and Tammy and their struggle to get past monumental mistakes made by the both of them. It gives us a lot more back story into the reasons for Walsh’s addictions and co-depende... morency and I love that it’s not tied up in a neat little “crappy childhood” bow. I found myself hating and loving both Tammy and Walsh on so many different occasions throughout this book. Half the time I was cheering for them to work it out and the other half I was wishing one would slap the other upside the head and get the hell on. The party of slapper/slappee changes exponentially throughout the story… Take a couple of days, READ LUSH BETRAYAL FIRST, and then read For the Love of a Lush. You will not be disappointed.
review 2: 4.5 Stars!!Wow.Firstly I want to thank Selena for kindly providing me with a copy of FTLOAL to read and review for her recent blog tour, unfortunately I wasn't able to provide me review at the time, due to being in hospital for the past week, but I'm currently catching up on my workload :)This was an intense and nail biting read and I loved the way the author wrote about the everyday occurrences of someone living with being an alcoholic and his trials and tribulations in him overcoming his demons.Walsh was not only betrayed by the woman he has loved since he was 14 years old but also by his best friend. He is an absolute mess. He is focused on getting his life back together by working his AA steps, fighting his alcoholism and starting a new life for himself, a life without alcohol, a life without his band mates....but most of all a life without the love of his life....Tammy.Their tragic life story is truly a LOVE LUSH story, this story had you wanting more and more as you kept turning each page and in the next minute BANG, your sucked into more whirlwind of family, love, betrayal and recovery with this gang of friends and family members.I felt sorry for Tammy throughout the book. She was so sorry for her mistake and loved Walsh so much. She wanted to fight for him and his love but didn't really know how to do it, all the while battling her own demons. I love that she never gave up on Walsh. Her love for him remained strong. Even when she realized that the best thing to do was to let him have his space. This book is very touching and will bring tears to the readers eyes, but its never a dull moment with humour and characterizations that will make you smile. less
