review 1: A few weeks ago, a friend has asked for graphic novel recommendations for her daughter, "preferably with a strong female lead who kicks ass & doesn't look like a street-walker Barbie." I immediately thought of Shannon Hale's comic series she was writing with her husband. I hadn't read them so I figured I should pick them up so I can walk the walk, so to speak.My local library only had the second one, but I dove right in. This was super fun. I honestly didn't realize it was the second one until I went to add it to goodreads. So it's virtually stand-alone. The Hales reimagined traditional fairy tale characters and creatures into this cool steampunk world. And Rapunzel does very much kick ass, so Janet should be happy.I'll definitely be picking up the first one, and any other... mores the Hales decide to write.
review 2: -Graphic Novel-Jack is self proclaimed thief, and when one of his plans goes wrong is mother's home and bakery is destroyed by a beanstalk. Jack is forced to leave but promises to make everything right one day. When he finally returns to the city, he uncovers a giant's plot to control the city. now jack must decided weather or not to put his bad guy ways behind him for the better of the city. less
