The Darcys of Pemberley
review 1: Doesn't quite capture Jane Austen's wit, nor equal her prose, but makes an admirable attempt and probably succeeds better than most. One thing that threw me off was the repeated references to God/Jesus - I don't remember Austen's works being particularly religious, though it's been a couple of years since I reread her works. Also thought the ending was predictable/super convenient, but that's generally par for the course with Jane Austen!
review 2: I was in a Jane Austen mood and I came across this book and was intrigued to peek into the post nuptial lives of the Darcys. I wasn't very much into it when I realized that the language and writing did not feel as if it had been written by Jane Austen, in fact, it felt much more modern and flat actually. Jane was no
... more where to be found. Perhaps that was the author's intent but in my mind don't take on a classic and much loved piece of literature and change it up. Other changes of note were the constant bedroom scenes, although definitely PG,in Jane's novels they are non-existent. The story itself went into plot lines that did not ring true in any form of Austen, specifically that which revolved around Mr. Wickham. Sure he was a cad in Austen's P&P, but did not have a violent or sinister nature and in fact it was implied that the family accepted the marriage of Lydia and Mr. Wickham and there seemed no real animosity. That is the way it was left and I'm assuming that is what Jane wanted us to know of it. What Jane excels at is building the characters and story word by word to the point that the reader fully understands what is behind the motives and actions of each character and thus one is as overwhelmed with emotion as the character on the page. Don't pick this book up thinking that you will be fulfilled as a Jane Austen fan. less

It was ok. But not what Jane would have written.
