Drake Powers had to be the most infuriating piece of work I’d met in my entire life. Never mind his gorgeous face, body, and tattoos. That was beside the point. The things that came out of the cocky bastard’s mouth—directed toward me, of course—had my own mouth falling open in shock.
His controlling, bad-boy demeanor should’ve had me running in the other direction.
But there was something behind that dominant presence of his.
Something guarded.
And I had to find out what it was.
I knew it was probably in my best interest to stay away.
But when was I ever one to listen?
Harper Bentley has taught high school English for 24 years. Although she’s managed to maintain her sanity regardless of her career choice, jumping into the world of publishing her own books goes to show that she might be closer to the ledge than was previously thought.
After traveling the nation in her younger years as a military brat, having lived in Alaska, Washington State and California, she now resides in Oklahoma with her teenage daughter, two dogs and one cat, happily writing stories that she hopes her readers will enjoy.
I am a sucker for Harper Bentley’s The Powers That Be series.
Now it’s Drake to share his story and when he crossed path with Honor, the broody and secretive guy had to step up his game to make this woman his. If you haven’t read the other books of this series, the Powers men are persistent, cocky and don’t beat around the bush. And I love it.
I really liked the “I love you-hate you” vibes bringing an incredible chemistry to the story. From hot and cold to freaking hot, Drake knew how to make Honor totally helpless when it came to his charms.
Honor was a strong, caring and selfless woman. Protective of the people she loved, being a good friend and sister, her way to see the world and living it was so positive. She had no poker face and the moment she met Drake, she couldn’t hide the feelings he managed to stir up inside. Intrigued and also captivated by this man who was very awful first.
Drake … acting like the perfect jerk but I like to see that he had so much more to tell. And yes he had a secret. When he met Honor, that woman that held all his attention, he was totally not showing it greatly. Almost giving whiplash to me, with a lot of teasing and a string hint of sexiness. Infuriating for sure, but so endearing once you got his side of the story.
Like I said before, the banter was really good and I totally devoured this book. Honor was challenging and so refreshing. He had to work for it but the lack of trust and confidence could be something that would tear them apart.
I wish the end was less rushed though. It was subsequently executed but it needed to me some expanding, more chapters to strengthen the story, because when you read the last chapters you want more. It was just the weak spot to me.
However, it was a quick and fun read, you’ll laugh and swoon for sure, with the right amount of emotion. Drake, le sigh … can’t wait to read the next book! Advertisements Partager :
