review 1: I loved this book for the insight into a woman's life in Afghanistan. I can't imagine the restrictions placed on women in that country but this story put that into perspective through the eyes of Tamanna and Yasmine, both different classes, or castes, but who become best friends and overcome the adversities placed in their ways. Yasmine is a very brave young woman who was raised in Britain but her parents moved back to Afghanistan to make a difference at the university. She sees her mother beaten on the street and witnesses the persecution of the Taliban at a village school. Through her experiences and her eventual sisterly friendship with Tamanna, you see Yasmine grow and blossom into a strong, brave warrior woman who loves her native country.

... moread this book about an year ago, and i never wanted it to end. The heartwarming story of Yasmine and Tamannah grips you. The book captures the perspectives of people from 2 different backgrounds. Yasmine is an Afghan who used to live in England while Tamannah hardly knows of anything outside her village in Afghanistan. This book traces their journey and friendship amidst the turbulent times of extremism and it's impact on Afghans. less
