review 1: Since I'm *finally* going to see Shawn live in October, now seemed like a good time to read her memoir. She's brutally honest about her dealing with depression, therapy, and her personality quirks, and gives a lot of insight into how the song writing process works for her. The book is fairly short and doesn't delve too deeply into a lot of things. I would have loved it to be longer but after all, she's a song writer not an author. It was a good look at one of my favorite performers, I'm really looking forward to the concert.
review 2: I'm happy to say that I discovered Shawn Colvin's music several years before "Sunny Came Home" made her well-known to the rest of the world. Being a big fan of Shawn Colvin for almost 20 years, I was really interested to read
... moreher autobiography. I loved reading about her songwriting and her early albums, esp. because that's some of her best work. While I enjoyed knowing more about her life, I really would rather have not learned so much about her personal life. Reading about Shawn's two divorces and many failed relationships actually made me like her a little less. I do have to give Shawn props for being so honest about her anxiety and depression problems. She shared a lot of details on these issues, and I'm sure that was not easy to do. Those parts were hard to read, and it made me so grateful that I don't have those problems.Because she has never become exceptionally famous nor had more than one really big single, Shawn seems more down to earth than a lot of artists. I saw her play in Boston in 2001, and she gave an amazing show. She just loves the experience! Being able to play the guitar as well as she does and have a hauntingly beautiful voice are extraordinary talents. Even though she discusses how difficult songwriting is for her, she writes some of the most profound and poetic lyrics I've ever heard. less

Worth reading. I liked how she was very open about her depression.
