review 1: I am giving this book 4.5 Star....Wow.. I absolutely loved this book. It was a complete thrill ride. I loved the taboo romance, the war between light and dark. I loved the dip into a fantasy world that felt so real page after page.This book had so many incredible layers to it. First Shayne writing was hands down AMAZING. This book was so beautifully written. The book contained so many dimensions. I loved the look into a man who believed he was the ultimate "monster", however, I as a reader fell in love with his underlying beautiful character. He's love and devotion for Charlotte was spell bounding.Charlotte, I felt her confusion for the love she had for Valek, was he father or was he lover. I loved how some books push the level of comfort up and down. But, man did these... more two have such a beautiful love. I could not read this book fast enough. It had EVERYTHING that makes for a great book. Heart-pounding, thrill ride, romantic journey, and fantasy seeker this is such a great book for you... I can not wait to continue to read the next book...
review 2: Charlotte, a normal mortal girl, lives with a community of witches, gnomes, shifters, and fairies. She has been raised by Valek , a vampire, for the last 20 years. A series of events happen that change Charlotte's, Valek's and the community. Told from several POV. Very clean book. Even the fighting was clean. The rest of the review containers a few spoilers.Charlotte wasn't my type of character. She was so focused on her love for Valek that little else mattered. She even went as far to find him humans to eat. Vampires eat humans, I get that. I also understand the rules of the Regime. It just didn't feel right to me. At some point, Charlotte's loves moves from daughterly to that of a lovers. Valek's starts to feel romantic towards Charlotte too. That did not work for me. I had a hard time getting past it. Plus the blood doll, I get that it was for survival but it is hard for me to get over.It was like a Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Star Trek: the Next Generation. The story built and built. Then it was resolved in the last 8% of the book. There was constant action throughout the book. The book wasn't bad, but wasn't my type of book. less
