review 1: Interesting plot. I thought this book would be different based on the summary, but Riya seemed pretty conservative for someone that was writing her dissertation on human sexuality. There seemed to be some guilt on her part, where she was hooking up with different men, sometimes hours after a previous encounter. It was written a few times that what she was doing made her seem like a "whore" even though everyone involved were consenting adults. When I noticed the pattern of Riya trying to set each man up with someone that just happened to be secretly harboring years of unrequited love, it became a little difficult to connect with the characters. I found myself skipping ahead to meet each new character, but would venture on to the next couple chapters to avoid the same plot o... moreccurring over and over. Finally made it to the end but didn't have much of an opinion, other than annoyance at Riya seeming to be fawned over by literally everyone that she met.
review 2: Once in a while you stumble onto a book by accident and it just ropes you in, hog tie you and leaving you with an unexpected book hangover.The Barter System did it for me. I don't read synopsis and only read reviews when I am not too interested in the book. So I went in totally blind. If ever there was a book that needed to uber sex, this was it! From the first words in chapter one I was roped in. I felt just as connected as Riya was with each of her partners. The surprise happy ending made it all worth it.Great writing, resulting in a great read!! less
