review 1: I won a copy of "Grace Grows" by Shelle Sumners through the Goodreads Giveaway Contest. I was first drawn to the cover of the book, with the two Labs on leash, and as I have two Labs I was drawn to the novel. This was a beautiful contemporary young adult romance novel, with many lessons learned. Grace Barnum is an editor and writer for a text book publisher, Spender-Davis Education and lives with her long-term boyfriend Steven. Grace comes from a divorced family and her mother, Julia is always trying to interfere in Grace's life, and tell her how to live her life. Her mother approved that Steven, a patent attorney for a major pharmaceutical corporation, was a Good Catch! For Julia, everything was so calculated.Grace meets Tyler Wilkie, as Tyler walks her neighbour's dogs. ... moreTyler had moved to Manhattan, with no education, to get some paying gigs, as he was an aspiring musician, and hoping to enter into the music business. As Steven is out of town a lot on business, Grace, and her best friend Peg, have a great time showing Tyler around the city and attending his gigs at local bars. Soon, Tyler is in love with Grace, writing her songs and calling at all times of day and night. But she makes it very clear to him that they are strictly friends...she has a man even if he is always out of town, and lives a boring life. Will Grace continue with her Perfect Life or make some big life-altering changes. The characters in this novel were very realistic and believable. This was a very enjoyable contemporary romance novel, that was hard to put down.
review 2: I enjoyed reading Grace Grows as it was simply about her doing exactly that. She moved from needing to be organised and in control in every aspect of her life to actually trusting herself a bit more, not always playing it safe and tried to let life unfold as it presented. Not that that happened easily for her or without a lot of pain, risk and poor choices on her behalf. Grace lived simply, played it safe, did it all by the book and was in a relationship with Steven who proposed to her and she accepted. Mmmmm. I became frustrated with her at times as I felt she made some really wrong decisions and choices, but understood that was part of her always wanting to have control.Oh I didn't mention Ty did I? She met Ty and they were friends. I really liked Ty and felt that he was more than patient with her. He was so romantic and obviously truly in love with her and a very loyal person. I am not saying any more as I don't want to spoil the story. I will recommend it as it was a really good read, had a bit of romance, happy ending and one that has a few layers to it. less
