review 1: Imagine a world of Necromancers, zombies, ninjas and magically-dressed or "magikewl" girls! Crazy, yes? High school boy Ayumu Aikawa is murdered by a mystery killer and soon after resurrected by Necromancer Eucliwood Hellscythe, or "Eu" for short. But before I get ahead of myself let me tell you the most hilarious thing. Not only is Ayumu a zombie and living with three hot girls, he's also allegedly stolen the powers of "magikewl" girl Haruna and is forced to battle demon-type things called megalos, while dressed in a pink frilly dress! -1st time reading.
review 2: It's really silly, and a bit bewildering. I liked some of the scenes, but there's a lot of humor that you'll need to read the translator's notes or get obscure aspects of Japanese culture and fandom ... moreto laugh. Not bad, but I'm tempted to see the anime over continue with the manga.Ayumu was a normal high school boy. Now, he is a zombie, revived by a necromancer girl named Au as a servant/somewhat friend. One day he encounters a "magickewl girl" (NOT a magical one, don't confuse her with those cliches) and grabs her pink chainsaw, stealing her powers. Add a curvy vampire ninja to the mix, and Ayumu's life is pretty hard.Ayumu can be downright hilarious at times. He has a HUGE little sister fetish, and imagines the silent and serious AU always responding to him as a cliche lil sis from a romance game. The "magickewl girl" Haruna is hyper and possibly borderline insane and takes no nonsense from him. There's some silly gags as well; don't forget to buy an optional wrestling mask when you order dinner from Maskdonalds or you might make a big beefy wrestler cry.I think the biggest problem is that there's so many in-jokes that require explanation that the manga loses impact. "Magickewl Girl" is one. Magical Girl in japanese is mahou shoujo, and masou shoujo translates to something like "magically equipped girl." The pun doesn't really translate as well, and Haruna herself suffers from this too. She likes to call Ayumi a perv but by punning off of anime cultural references that are really impossible to translate and retain the humor. It would be like calling someone Bond. Jerk Bond, but based on even more obscure references, and with more punning. So a lot of the humor is lost. The manga still is pretty funny, but you will have to read the translator's notes in the back.It's a bit rushed and manic too. Not that bad, but there are better. less
