review 1: Close followers of the series may feel a little disconcerted with this one. The writing style seems somewhat darker than the earlier books, and I found myself going back a few pages several times because it seemed like the timeline got out of order. Like other reviewers, I missed Joe and Dulcie being in on a lot of the action, as well as their human companions Clyde, Wilma, Max, Charlie, and the rest of the MPPD. However, this time, Kit gets to be the star, with her housemates Pedric and Lucinda. And star she does; you will feel her fear, and her anger. We also get to see a little more of Kit's love, Pan, and feel some of the confusion and loneliness as Misto recalls more of his past lives.
review 2: Iv'e always been a fan of Shirley Rousseau Murphy's Joe Grey ... moremystery series. Joe Grey is a tomcat who has the ability to speak. He has a few friends (cats) that have this same ability and only a few humans near and dear to them know their secret. In this story, Lucinda and Ped5ric Greenlaw are hurt in a car accident. Two men that are involved in the accident steal the Greenlaw's Town Car not aware there is a fortune in jewels hidden within the car's door panels. These two bad men and what they do and how they do it are at the crux of the story. Kit, their speaking cat, and her friends, Joe Grey,and Pan, also speaking cats, slowly start finding out the truth about two murders and the treasure the Greenlaws had hidden in their Town Car. Humans and cats interact in a beguiling mystery with otherworldly overtones. This makes the Joe Grey mystery series a joy to read especially if you are a cat lover. less
