review 1: I discovered some of these wonderful short stories when they were read by actors on Selected Shorts. I googled the stories and found them on the New Yorker website and found this book. Simon Rich is young and writes wonderful amusing stories. I have been able to use them with my adult education class and they love his work. So do I! My students are learning English for Speakers of other Languages and they are often drilled with boring adaptations of stories and the following worksheets. Simon Rich's stories areveasynto read and show a literary talent most Learners never get in their classes. I enjoy him too and will look for more books by him. We enjoyed "Untouched", "Occupy Jen Street" and I might use "I Love Girl" too!
review 2: It's funny in parts, awful in... more parts, and occasionally hilarious. The best stories show up early, with a great one being the first person narrative of a condom. But it quickly abandons the more inventive storytelling it sucked you in with, replacing it with lazy stereotypes and a more bro-centric view of relationships that gets tiresome. There's still some good stories to be found late in the book, but it's a very spotty collection overall. less
