review 1: I liked this one more than I initially anticipated. The beginning started off really similar to several other books of this same genre, and I prepared myself to loose interest fast. But about halfway through I realized I was really enjoying it. It surprised me a few times and kept me turning the pages to figure things out. While it definetly felt a bit like other books I've read (enders game,crosswire series) I still enjoyed it, and will probably continue to read this series.
review 2: This was an excellent book, right up my alley. The only thing that made me take a star away was its predictability and its obvious use of the main character that comes from nothing and is miraculously chosen to embark on this very rare quest. Also throw in the smart sidekick and ... morethe average friend who gets you in trouble all the time. There is also the issue of Blackburn, all I could picture was Severus Snape. Don't get me wrong, this is a very good book, I just though it lacked originality in certain areas. less
