review 1: To Be Perfectly Honest is a great book about a girl named Collete that doesn't know how to do anything but lie. Her mom is a movie star and whisks Collete and her brother,Will, away so she can go shoot a movie. On their way there Collete see this boy on a bike that she cant stop thinking about. When they get to the hotel they will stay at, she fantasizes about him following her around and coming to the hotel to see her. That is of course a flat out lie. Collete then makes plans to go places but her mother just acts as if they had nothing to do and goes out with her new co-star boyfriend. So, Collete and Will are all alone in this new place. First they go and see a festival and drink tons of lemonade, then they are off to the bathroom. While they are there Collete realizes ... morethat Will is to old to go in the ladies bathroom with her so she is forced to use it and zoom out as fast as she can. When she is finished in the bathroom she comes out to find that her little brother has moved from the bench and is getting on a motorcycle with a boy, Connor, who apparently is biker boy. Since Colette doesn't realize who owns the bike she goes into full panic mode. She call him a pervert and runs to Will's side to get him off the motor cycle. As she runs over she see hes the boy that she has been dreaming about. From that point on they meat unexpectedly. One time they exchange numbers and then start to schedule dates. They become a couple and then suddenly Connor wants to take it to the next lever;sex. Well, Collete wants to do it but isnt ready. So further in the story Connor fakes cancer and
review 2: I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I thought it was really, really godawful. On the other hand, I kind of enjoyed reading this. I think its literary merits are as slim as the book is fat. The novelty of reading a book in prose was kind of nice, though. I think it only took me a few hours to read. That being said, the poetry was kind of bad and just read like someone who couldn’t write terrific prose and couldn’t write terrific poetry so decided to settle for the midpoint of a mediocre poetry novel. If a teen came up to me and said, “I like to read poetry, specifically the work of Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton,” I would not recommend this book because the verse was so weak and could destroy someone’s love for quality poetry. I mean, there’s a value to a quick-read for sure, but I can’t endorse a quick-read novel for someone just because it’s lighthearted. To me that’s the opposite of responsible reader’s advisory.
