review 1: My initial reaction upon completing the final word of the final chapter: I loved it! It was funny and sexy and fun and angsty and basically everything I look for in a book. I loved the relationship between the main characters. All of them. The Dita/Perry combo, the Lex/Kara combo, the Dean/Roe combo... And those were just the friendships! The love stories were also beautifully crafted! And did I mention it was funny? Because this book is so clever! I laughed out loud several times!Staci Hart has done a remarkable job at balancing your attention between modern day New York and modern day Olympus. Beautifully weaving a competition between gods with the love lives of two mortals, Deer in Headlights is a winner!Two words: nailed it!
review 2: I love the concept an... mored execution. The competition of the gods makes such a wonderful framework for the plot. I'm assuming that each novel will follow the relationships of the gods but offer up a new, human romance, which is just a fabulous idea. Because the gods are so modern and relatable, I found myself as invested in their personal dramas as I was in the love story between Dean and Lex. Lex was one of my favorite heroines, someone I could respect. I liked that her vulnerability lay beneath the surface. Dean was painfully beautiful.There was also a lot to juggle in terms of plot and characters, which I was wary of at first, but I had no problem following. I felt like the entire novel was very tightly laid out, the author never lost direction, and therefore the pacing was perfect. Great novel and a lot of fun to read! less
